⚓ Kronstadt: zero elevation, cast-iron pavement and the Plague Fort

A naval fortress on an island: the Naval Cathedral, the only cast-iron pavement, the booth from which Elbrus is measured, the garden of the discoverer of Antarctica and forts in the sea.
Getting there
By car or taxi — via Oranienbaum and the dam, about 40 minutes. There is a bus from Oranienbaum and minibuses from St. Petersburg. In Kronstadt — on foot; to the forts — by car.
What to take
A warm windbreaker (it's always windy on the dam), comfortable shoes, a headscarf for the cathedral.
Stops
- Kronstadt Naval Cathedral — A monument to all sailors who died in service. The main church of the fleet.
- Anchor Square — Perhaps the only cast-iron pavement in Russia.
- Petrovsky Park — A garden laid out at his own expense by the discoverer of Antarctica.
- Kronstadt Footstock — This is where the height of all the country's mountains and cities is measured from.
- Plague Fort — A doughnut-shaped fort in the sea where plague was studied for 20 years.
- Fort Konstantin — A fort you can drive to — part of the ring that was never breached.
