The only suburb not captured during the war: the authentic Rococo of the Chinese Palace, the pavilion of a giant "American mountain" slide, Peter III's toy fortress and Menshikov's palace.
Getting there
From the Old Peterhof platform, take a suburban train to Oranienbaum-I, about 10 minutes, or a taxi in about 15 minutes. From the station to the park is a 5-minute walk.
What to take
Comfortable shoes; it's better to buy tickets to the palaces in advance.
Stops
- Menshikov Palace — The palace of the "semi-sovereign ruler", more luxurious than Peter's.
- Palace of Peter III — A tiny palace in the emperor's toy fortress; he ruled for six months.
- Chinese Palace — Authentic Rococo that the war did not touch.
- Roller Coaster Pavilion — The pavilion of the longest "roller coaster" of the 18th century.
