Chinese Palace

Authentic Rococo that the war did not touch.
The Chinese Palace was built by Antonio Rinaldi in 1757–1768 for Catherine the Great. The name comes from the interiors in the Chinese taste, fashionable in Europe at the time. Its main treasure is authenticity. Oranienbaum found itself inside the Oranienbaum bridgehead and was not captured during the war, unlike all the other suburbs of St. Petersburg. That is why genuine 18th-century interiors have been preserved here, not reconstructions. It is also the only place in Russia where the Rococo style manifested itself in full force. Do not miss the Glass Bead Room: its walls are covered with embroidery on glass beads.

🏯 Oranienbaum: palaces that never saw war
The only suburb not captured during the war: the authentic Rococo of the Chinese Palace, the pavilion of a giant "American mountain" slide, Peter III's toy fortress and Menshikov's palace.
