🗝️ Secret Peterhof

The place where Lomonosov made colored glass for mosaics.

In the forest at the confluence of the Lopukhinka and Chyornaya rivers stands a modest memorial sign. In 1753, Empress Elizabeth granted Mikhail Lomonosov an estate with four villages "for the making of multicolored glass and beads from them." On May 6 of the same year, Lomonosov founded a factory of colored glass and smalt here. Within a year, its beads had conquered St. Petersburg fashionistas, and over twelve years the workshop created 27 mosaic portraits and paintings, including the "Battle of Poltava," which is now at the Academy of Sciences. The factory itself is long gone, the village was abolished — only the place, the rivers, and the forest remain.

Tip: The road is unpaved and there are few signs: plot your route in the navigator in advance. It's convenient to combine with the Lopukhinka waterfalls-springs along the way.
