⛲ Water and Fountains

Reservoir ponds turned into a romantic landscape.

Meadow Park grew out of engineering necessity. Here lie the reservoir ponds that feed the fountains, and under Nicholas I it was decided to turn them into a beautiful landscape. The architect Stackenschneider placed pavilions along the banks in various styles — Greek, Gothic, Italian — so that one could be seen from another. Many of the buildings perished in the war, but the open meadows, ponds and distant views remain. This is one of the freest and most deserted parks of Peterhof: local residents walk their dogs here, and tourists hardly ever come.

Tip: Take water and a snack — there are no cafes here. Mosquitoes are serious in summer: repellent will come in handy.

💧 Where the water flows from: Lugovoy Park and Babigon

A long walk south through deserted parks: the start of the fountain water conduit, the ruins of the Rose Pavilion, meadows with ponds and the "temple on a podium" on Babigon Hill. You can take a bus back.
