The Belvedere on Babigon

An ancient temple on a high podium — a viewing point for Nicholas I.
On Babigon Hill, the highest point of the Meadow Park, stands the Belvedere — a palace built by Stackenschneider in 1852–1854 for Nicholas I. It resembles an ancient Greek temple: 28 Ionic columns of grey Serdobol granite surround the building. But this "temple" is placed on a high podium, as was not done in classical Greece: such a composition appeared only later, in the Middle East. The explanation is simple: the emperor wanted to look at the surroundings from above. On a clear day, both the lakes and the gulf are visible from here.

A long walk south through deserted parks: the start of the fountain water conduit, the ruins of the Rose Pavilion, meadows with ponds and the "temple on a podium" on Babigon Hill. You can take a bus back.
