A monastery on the bank of the Volkhov with its own pier.
A small monastery stands right by the water, downstream from the fortress along the Volkhov River. They say its founding is linked to Alexander Nevsky's victory over the Swedes on the Neva. Over the centuries the monastery was repeatedly plundered and rebuilt; in Soviet times it was closed, and now it is being revived. It is peaceful here, with a view of the river and a wooden pier where pilgrims' boats once moored. A good place to end a walk around Staraya Ladoga.
Tip: From the fortress it is about a 20-minute walk along the Volkhov.
