St Seraphim's Church

The church of the metochion of the Diveyevo Monastery — the street takes its name from it.
The closest place to the house — a five-minute walk. This is the church of St Seraphim of Sarov, the former metochion of the Seraphim-Diveyevo Monastery. Diveyevo is a famous convent near Nizhny Novgorod, and metochions were its 'representative offices' in the capitals and at royal residences. Seraphim of Sarov was canonized in 1903 under Nicholas II, and soon the monastery received a plot of land in Peterhof, next to the royal dachas. The church was built by imperial decree in 1904–1911. Hence the name of the street — Diveevskaya. In Soviet times the church was closed, but today it is active again and restored. If you compare it with photographs from a hundred years ago, you can see how closely the silhouette has been brought back to the original.
