A monastery on the shore of the gulf — Anna Ioannovna's gift to her confessor.

In 1732, Empress Anna Ioannovna gave her confessor, Archimandrite Varlaam, the former country estate of her sister, which had fallen into disrepair. In 1735, a monastery was founded here, which before the revolution was one of the main monasteries near St. Petersburg. Its necropolis was called the "pantheon" of noble families. For almost a quarter of a century, the monastery was governed by St. Ignatius Brianchaninov, a well-known spiritual writer. Under Soviet rule, the village of Sergievo was renamed Volodarsky, and in 2010 the station was given back the name Sergievo. Today the monastery is active, the churches and part of the necropolis have been restored.

Tip: The monastery is active. The exit to the bay beyond the fence is a good place for quiet.
