Monrepos Park

Russia's only rocky landscape park.
Monrepos — French for "my repose" — is Russia's only rocky landscape park, set on granite cliffs above the bay of Vyborg Bay. It was owned by the Stupishins, the Duke of Württemberg, and, for the longest time, by the von Nicolay barons, who turned the estate into a romantic park with a Temple of Neptune, an Island of the Dead, and a family necropolis on a cliff. Members of the imperial family, Mikhail Glinka, and Osip Mandelstam visited here. The main house and wing were restored not long ago, but in many people's opinion they lost their authenticity in the process — yet the cliffs, pines, and water have remained as they were.
