Benois Family Museum

🏛️ Palaces and Parks · Dvortsovaya Square

The story of a family that had enough architects and artists for three generations.

The museum tells about a remarkable family. Its founder, Louis-Jules Benois, son of a French peasant, became a maître d'hôtel at the court of Paul I; he had eighteen children. His son Nicholas Benois was the chief architect of Peterhof from 1850 and built here for many years. And then — the artist Alexandre Benois, one of the founders of the World of Art movement, the architect Leonty Benois, the watercolorist Albert Benois, the artist Zinaida Serebriakova, the actor Peter Ustinov — all one family. The exhibition includes paintings, drawings, letters and family belongings. Many of the Benois summer dachas stood right on our western shore of Peterhof.

Tip: Goes well together with the Playing Card Museum — both are next to the Grand Palace, both are a help in bad weather.
